BIO
1st and 2nd Generation Canadian, daughter of Jean and Bob Hume, RCAF WWII, post war Design graduates of the Vancouver School of Art and Design, Vancouver, B.C. Jean Hume, a graduate of Central Tech in Toronto joined the Royal Canadian Air Force where she met husband Robert Hume. Upon leaving the RCAF Bob and Jean took the educational option offered to non-native x-armed forces by the Canadian government. Jean graduated a four year program in three years with honours. A Designer and Visual Artist, Jean exhibited with the New Design Gallery in Vancouver, B.C. Health and other personal issues severely hindered Jeans' career as an artist / designer. This remains a strong influence on the artists' life and work. R.M.Hume, also a Designer/ Visual Artist, Bob was past president and Fellow of the Canadian Museums Association and past president of the Sculptors Society of Canada. Working in the museum field as a non-academic, Bob was still able to contribute a strong message of accessibility on the behalf of the Canadian public to their museums.
An avid horsewoman for many years, Hume once held her Coaching Level One and her knowledge of comparative anatomy largely stemming from studying the bio-mechanics of horse and rider. Hume has also had experience in dance, martial arts, and yoga.. This knowledge and experience greatly informs Humes' understanding of anatomy and movement in both 2 & 3 dimensional work.
Once married to the late Morris Crow Spreading Wings, councilor and Piercing Sundance elder and leader, the Poor Mans Sundance, Blood Tribe/Kainai First Nation, Alberta,Canada. As Mrs. Crow, Hume and Morris Crow had three sons and a large extended family of step children and grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Hume has explored many forms of spirituality and remains a piercing Sundancer and a deeply spiritual person in the broader sense.
This can be seen in her work and in her life long interests in the areas of metaphysics and art theory. Professional Interests; all arts mediums and disciplines, art education, community art, the professional standing and the role of the artist in society, museums, collecting, creativity, education. Currently Humes' work is informed greatly by her investigations into her lineage heritages and the study and practice of Druidry. Themes included in current work are: diaspora, Scottish history and lore, anatomy and botany.
Personal interests; environment, social justice, edible landscaping and organic gardening, community, alternative health practices, local and sustainable economics, religion and spirituality, philosophy, metaphysics, media and communications.
