Childrens' Art and Design

Design by Sadie, copyright to the designer 2013

The work done above is the result of encouraging a child to think through their design and not accept defeat when faced with unexpected problem solving.

The flower form to the left, was originally intended to be attached to the cylindrical form to the right. This was then to become a display holder for an Easter Egg form created previous to the class. In discussing the height requirements of the kiln firing, the young designer was encouraged to work work out a solution and explain her reasoning.

The flower form became a bowl, the cylinder a cup and when placed back together a jar and once again a holder for her beautiful egg.

Fine Art Bah Relief Tile by Sadie, copyright to the artist 2013

Apologies for the poor quality of this photo.

The young creative was challenged to create a bah relief tile that would test her sense of 2&3D illusions and merge the two into one composition.

Thank you Sadie for your delightful hard work. Well done!

Recycler and Found Object Art and Design

Never under estimate the potential of this form of art and design. The possibilities are endless. Often overlooked as messy and unfinished, this form is rich with opportunity for contemplation and insight.

In this, case a poetic little object thoughtfully created came flowing out of a young girl during a drop in studio. The studio drop in S.O.C.S. was an authentic art experience I held for children and youth in my London market studio.  S.O.C.S. was a 'Safe Fail' zone where participants could learn that trial and error is a positive part of the creative process. Left to their own devices and with encouragement, children build confidence and learn to take creative chances. So can adults.
