Migrant Work: (Not) In Black and White                                                                                     At the Root Cellar and Medium Gallery

"This talk accompanies the photographic exhibition of migrant workers running from February 19 - March 3, 2013 on display at the Root Cellar Organic Cafe. The Black and White Photographs were taken by Jeff Cormier (1967-2007) and Chris Stroud in Leamington and Dresden, On in 2005.
The Seasonal Agricultural Worker Program has been present in Ontario since at least the mid-1960s. The importance of migrant labour to the Canadian standard of living has been understated, marginalized, if not entirely ignored. L
abourers come to Canadian farms to underwrite the agricultural industry with few social, economic or political protections. This event will discuss the issue of migrant labour in South Western Ontario and the wider influences and implications. Admission is FREE and family friendly.
The Root Cellar kitchen will remain open from 7 - 7:30pm (half an hour longer than their usual closing time in order to accommodate anyone who
would like to order a meal.)
